DATCHWORTH U12 BOYS TRIUMPH IN NORFOLK RUGBY FESTIVAL

The Datchworth Rugby Club minis held their annual tour in Norfolk last weekend, culminating in a tournament at Holt RFC on Sunday 11th April. On top of enjoying the hospitality of the host club and a welcome day of sunshine, Datchworth U12s had a tremendous day of rugby and achieved second place in a hard contested 6-team league playoff.

In the first game Craig Devine and Tom Johnson scored tries, both converted by Connor Finn to win 14-0 against Braintree, another touring side. In the next game Datchworth beat local champions Fakenham RFC, with a try from Franco Caroleo which was converted to deliver a very hard fought 7-0 victory in a quite brutal game.

Several injuries incurred during the Fakenham game didn't hinder the boys from putting up a valiant effort against the host club, Holt.

After the best game of the tournament Holt won 7-0 but not without a fight. In game four DRFC beat Sleaford 33-0 with two Tom Johnson tries, two from Colin Bug and one from Rory Welch. In the final game Datchworth faced local Hertfordshire rivals Stevenage RFC and dealt out a 42-0 thrashing with tries from George Comer, Laurie Claytor, Jerry Bateman, Morgan Smith and Tom Johnson (2). With 14 tries in total and only 1 conceded, Datchworth were unlucky to finish runners-up, as they had finished on equal points with the hosts, but the boys returned home happy and tired after a great weekend!!!
